Weald Deanery Events

Weald Deanery is part of the Diocese of Canterbury and is situated in the Weald of Kent - the Garden of England.

The Weald Deanery comprises the Churches of:-

St. Laurence's Church, Hawkhurst
St. Peter and St. Paul's Church, Headcorn
St. Michael and All Angels Church, Marden
Trinity Church, Sissinghurst with St. Mary's Church, Frittenden
All Saint's Church, Staplehurst

Rev Bill Hornsby
The new Area Dean, with effect from 1st September, 2010, is the Revd. Bill Hornsby, Vicar of Goudhurst with Kilndown. Our congratulations are extended to him on his appointment.

He succeeds Revd. Canon Gill Calver, Rector of Staplehurst, to whom we also offer our sincere thanks for her time as Area Dean and our best wishes for her impending retirement on 31st January, 2011.

The Deanery Synod comprises members of the clergy of the constituent parishes, and lay members elected at their Annual Parochial Church Meeting to serve for 3 years. The Lay Chair is Mrs. Val Wallis, MBE. The Deanery is also represented at the Diocesan Synod.

The Deanery Synod normally meets 3 times a year, rotating round the parishes, in February, June and October, with additional meetings if there is a need.

FRIENDS of MARDEN'S HERITAGE
Saturday 28th January, 2012 – 7.30pm – Marden Memorial Hall
BURNS NIGHT CEILIDH
Cobtree Scottish Country Dancers will provide the music and songs and lead the dancing.
“Burns Night Supper” with the Haggis being piped in and addressed, and Rabbie Burns will be toasted and praised.
Tickets:- £10.00 including supper, a glass of wine or whisky.

I am also pleased to inform you of the appointment of Rev. Alison (Ali) Duguid as the new Vicar of Marden. She is presently Vicar of St. Peter and St. Paul, Ospringe and of St. Mary Magdalene and St. Lawrence, Davington, Faversham where she has served for the last five and a half years. She was previously curate for four years in a benefice in Romney Marsh. Ali has held a number of appointments within the Diocese, as Director of Poverty and Hope, tutor on the Authorised Lay Ministry scheme and on the Canterbury Teaching Programme. It is expected that she will be inducted soon after Easter 2012 and we look forward to her arrival with great expectation.
