Charity for July, August and September 2010Hearing Dogs for Deaf PeopleHearing Dogs for Deaf People is a charity similar to Guide Dogs for the Blind receiving no Government or Lottery funding but has one very big difference; wherever possible, it utilises puppies and young dogs from rescue centres, Battersea Dogs' Home, Dogs' Trust, RSPCA and many smaller centres such as Last Chance at Edenbridge. They come from throughout the UK and Southern Ireland. Some dogs are donated by breeders and members of the public and others from Hearing Dogs own breeding scheme. One in seven of the adult population in the UK has a hearing loss and over half a million of these are severely or profoundly deaf and could potentially benefit from a hearing dog. The absolute aim of Hearing Dogs is to improve the lives of deaf people through the selection training and placement of one of their specially trained dogs. The mission is to offer greater independence, confidence and security to deaf people by providing dogs trained to alert them to chosen everyday sounds without having to try to cope with technical equipment. In addition to the obvious benefits of being alerted, the therapeutic value of Hearing Dogs cannot be underestimated. Deafness can be a very lonely and isolating disability and, in fact, is known as the “invisible disability”. As you can see, this is a charity that benefits both people and dogs. Please give as generously as you possibly can. Charity Committee For more information visit the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People Web site. |
