Ringing Report - March 2008

We have recently welcomed two new ringers, Jenny and Hazel, to our band and have put on an extra practice for them and for some of our other less experienced ringers every Friday evening. You won't hear the bells ringing, however, as the clappers on the bells are tied and the sound produced by a simulator inside the ringing room. In this way ringers can be trained without disturbing the neighbours' More about our ringing simulator in a future issue.

If you would like to learn to ring please contact Tower Captain Sue Bassett on 01580 891917 for more information, or just come along to one of our Tuesday evening practices at 7.30pm and see what it's all about. In case anyone is wondering, I must stress that there is absolutely no requirement for ringers to attend the church services that they ring for.

Easter is nearly upon us and, as usual, we will not be practicing during Holy Week.

That apart we will be practicing on Tuesdays and ringing for Sunday services as usual. At the time of writing, there is no extra ringing planned for March.

Ringing Report - February 2008

On New Year's Eve the Bellringers held their traditional party at the home of Sue and Chris Bassett before ringing out the old year and ringing in the new. Such is the enthusiasm of our ringers that we actually held our normal Tuesday evening practice on New Years Day.

As in many organisations, things tend to go rather quiet after the excitement of the Christmas period. Consequently there is little to report this month, although we did welcome a band of ringers from the Tonbridge District during January.

At the time of writing there is no extra ringing planned for February other than our normal Tuesday practice and the regular Sunday services.

Remember that we are always on the lookout for new ringers. Contact Tower Captain Sue Bassett on 01580 891917 for more information, or just come along to one of our Tuesday evening practices at 7.30pm and see what it's all about.

Ringing Report - January 2008

The Staplehurst Bellringers hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and wish you all the best for the New Year.

The old year ended on a high note for our ringers as around 16 of us enjoyed our Christmas meal at The Bell on 11th December. Whilst we were tucking into the delicious food and drink provided by Paul and his staff, a visiting band of ringers took over our bells for the evening. It seemed strange to hear the bells but not be ringing them! By the time you read this, we will also have enjoyed our traditional New Year's Party and will have “rung in” 2008.

Our aim for the New Year is to build on the success of last year. To help keep that momentum going we always need to recruit more ringers. As you will see above there is a good social side to bellringing. We nearly always adjourn to The Bell for liquid refreshment after practice, and once a year we have a day's outing ringing at churches in other parts of the country. Why not make it one of your New Year resolutions to come and visit us at our Tuesday practice and see what it's all about? For more information contact our Tower Captain Sue Bassets on 01580 891917.

At the time of writing there is no extra ringing planned for January other than our normal Tuesday practice and the regular Sunday Services.
